more about warren buffett (17 aug 2013)

key components to Buffett's investment process are:
  • Simple, understandable, businesses within his circle of competence.
  • A track record of strong earnings and returns on equity.
  • A "fair" price (meaning that he's careful not to overpay, but isn't tethered solely to bargain valuations).

what i read today: trading like warren buffett (19 jan 2013)

TRADE LIKE WARREN BUFFET
Forget the media generated hype about the investment skill of Warren Buffet. The first glimpse of Buffet trading strategies was provided in Buffetology. This book explores these ideas further. Buffet built his money, on which he can now take a more relaxed approached to investing, by trading. Success came from information arbitrage techniques, short term trading, and what he calls ‘work outs.’ This included spin offs and other specialised short term situations. Many were based on information arbitrage – he knew some things before they seeped down to the broader general public. Remember, this was before the internet, and a search to find comparative ROE was done by hand, not by on line screening.
This is a primer on canny trading. When you have a large fortune you can invest like Warren Buffet. When you are starting out, there are advantages in learning to trade like Warren Buffet, Jessie Livermore, and others.

what i read today: Warren Buffett’s winning ways, 50 years on (17 jan 2013)

Warren Buffett’s winning ways, 50 years on

what many investors fail to grasp is that the long-term according to Buffett has never been about passive buy-and-hold; it’s buy-on-the-cheap, hold and monitor. That goes for the undervalued common stock, opportunistic workout situations, and wholly or majority-owned “control” businesses that are Buffett’s hallmarks.
Buffett repeated his mantra about performance: “Our job,” he wrote, “is to pile up yearly advantages over the performance of the Dow without worrying too much about whether the absolute results in a given year are a plus or a minus.”

“You will not be right simply because a large number of people momentarily agree with you. You will not be right simply because important people agree with you.
“You will be right, over the course of many transactions, if your hypotheses are correct, your facts are correct, and your reasoning is correct.”
