stok tots: ca/concrete aggregates (10 jun 2013)

interesting: jose rodriguez iv, ca treasurer disclosed that he bought 1.8 million shares of ca on 4 june 2013 .. equivalent to 6.55% of ca .. he only owned 318 ca shares previously ....

question: why would a company treasurer with negligible shares before .. all of a sudden buy 6.55% of his company? hmmmm ...

Ortigas looks to residential sector for long-term growth
 (The Philippine Star) |
“In about 10 years, we hope to have a better mix at 50-50. We hope to increase income contribution from development projects to 50 percent,” said Joey Santos, general manager of the real estate division of OCLP Holdings Inc.
“Right now, our income is still heavily on retail,” Santos said, adding that the retail segment accounts for 70 percent of the company’s business.
OCLP Holdings earlier outlined its P68-billion spending for several mixed-use projects in Metro Manila in the next 10-15 years.

my long shot bets for 2013 (30 dec 2012)

't'is the end of the year once again and people are in the mood to place their fearless forcasts for the coming year ... well .. i dont have any dark horse bets for the coming year like i did last year .. see: my dark horse bets for 2012 (23 jan 2012) ... what i have for 2013 is my list of "long shot" bets ...  pwedeng ma-shoot ... pwede din hindi ... long shot e ... hehe .. here goes ... :

1. ca (concrete aggregates): ... maybe by 2013 ...the ortigas family will be able to address already the issue of what to do with their ortigas and co. holding company ... either: a. have the ayalas or the sys form joint venture projects with them ... b. sell ortigas and co. to either the ayalas or sys lock stock and barrel ... c. mount an IPO  .. or d .. use ca (a majority-owned subsidiary of ortigas and co) as their bakdoor veihicle ...

2. prim (prime media holdings): prim's restructuring has been previously postponed from 2012 to the 1st quarter 2013 ... im awaiting what mr. pangilinan's plans are for prim this coming year ...

3. alhi (anchor land holdings): im speculating another generous cash and stock div will again be given in 2013 ..

4. vul (vulcan industrial and mining corp): maybe mr. ramos of national bookstore will be able to decide already what to do with vul ...

5. mmi (mariwasa siam holdings) ... the anggala group has not yet disclosed what they will do with the empty mmi after buying it from the cosetengs ... a backdoor for the gaisano group perhaps?

i guess ill stop at these 5 bets for the mean time ....

a more profitable year to all you blog readers for 2013!!!

my dark horse bets for 2012 (updated)

early this year i posted a blog entry sharing my dark horse bets for 2012 ... stocks i patiently built a small position on over a period of time (years), buying when the stock's price dipped ...  and selling some when a bit of portfolio rebalancing was required ...

i posted then that my dark horse bets for 2012 were prim/prime media holdings and ca/concrete aggregates (see : my dark horse bets for 2012 ).

however, recent developments obligate me to make that january 23 post up to date.

regarding prim ...

on 27 june 2012, prim disclosed to the pse (see: update on business plan) that prim's timetable to clean up its books and transfer its assets has been moved to the 1st quarter of 2013. these activities were deemed necessary before any new capital raising activities (possible entry of new investors/issuance of new shares/infusion of assets (stock swap)) can be accomplished. it will be recalled that my reason for choosing prim was my speculation that it will be the backdoor vehicle for the listing of mr. manny pangilinan's media assets, primarily abc 5. with this disclosure by prim, im taking out prim from my darkhorse bets for 2012 and temporarily lock it inside my stock freezer.

on ca ...

last friday, it was reported that ortigas holdings director jaime ortigas disclosed in the newspapers that ortigas holdings exercised its right of first refusal and bought the 34% block of hsbc in ortigas holdings (see:SM buy-in blocked by Ortigas Group), thereby preventing the sm group of mr. henry sy from buying into the ortigas holding company which has been rumoured before to be in negotiations with hsbc for the purchase of its 34% position in ortigas holdings.

moreover, ayala land also disclosed last friday that it will forge a strategic alliance with ortigas holdings in the development of its landbank and properties and will allocate an initial 15B pesos for that purpose (see: Executive Committee authorization to negotiate and enter into strategic alliance with Ortigas group, allocation of P15 billion). while both ali's and ortigas' disclosures do not have any direct relevance to ca, my earlier speculation that ca is a possible backdoor vehicle for the listing of some or all of the ortigas holding's assets gains a new lease on life. previously, ortigas holdings had indicated in its capital raising plans the following options: either an IPO, private placement or both. with the ortigas purchase of hsbc's stake and ali's disclosure of a strategic partnership with ortigas, im now thinking that ortigas will opt to retain ownership of its assets and just pursue joint venture projects with ali, just like what ali did with the madrigal's alabang properties, prc's santa ana race track properties and mjc's san lazaro properties. im further speculating that the ortigas properties will be infused into listed ca, then later pursue an IPO of the backdoored assets via ca thru the issuance of new shares as part of ortigas holding's capital raising activities.

to summarise ...

im keeping ca in my list and taking out prim indefinitely from my 2012 dark horse bets.

today's log (9 feb 2012)

did a lot of cutting today ... something i havent done for a long long time ... ouch!

bot a few more pnx as the news of the 50% stock div spreads

added a few more fdc's on positive price action ... no disclosure yet but i guess its related to the east west ipo

added a few more ca's ... ca went limit up at the opening only to be sold down at the closing ... up by only 4.11%.  seems the market thinks the possible sm-oclp deal wont benefit ca whatsoever.

my dark horse bets for 2012 (23 jan 2012)

2011 saw most of my dark horse bets rising to ceiling levels. sometimes it pays to be an early bird ... silently buying when no one is watching, silently waiting .. until the moment when the market decides the time for waiting is over and the time to reward patience is at hand .. and it unleashes the hunger and greed of the buyers into a buying frenzy ... thats when i obligingly sell my position i have patiently built over a long period of seeming nonactivity. by the way, i no longer have any position in the previously mentioned 2011 dark horse bets.

remaining on my list of dark horse bets are ca and prim.

ca has had 2 ceiling runs last year. however, these i deem as mere practice runs for the real thing which i speculate is still to come. im counting on a long shot possibility that ca could be a backdoor candidate to one of several subsidiaries of the ortigas holding company .. it may even be the backdoor vehicle for the ortigas holding company itself. who knows?

prim is my bet for a possible backdoor listing of another of mr. manny pangilinan's babies. it has already been rumoured before that prim is a possible backdoor candidate for tv5 and/or any of mr. pangilinan's media acquisitions (newspapers, radio stations, etc).

my choice of ca and prim has no fundamental nor technical basis. just like my previous dark horse bets, they are purely based on speculative hunch/analysis of possible future price action.

happy chinese new year to all! may the year of the dragon be richly rewarding for all of us traders.
